They were indeed very low line speakers. a 3way box with a 12" woofer weighed less than my Dynaco A25 XLs. Audiosphere had one pair with a 15" woofer two mids, two tweeters for $150 a pair IIRC. The A25 XLs cost more, were more accurate, but I sold a ton of Audiosphere speakers as kids wanted big woofers (Freudian thing perhaps?)

Audiosphere Research speakers were still made in the mid 80's. Even in the late 80's (1989). I know, I saw a bunch of these at my audio dealer in that year. By the way, they are Canadian made, like someone already mentioned. The ones that the OP is looking at, I'm not sure the model #, perhaps they are the AR-15L (but I don't think so).

Audiosphere Research were a brand that were low cost big box speakers. I sold them in the 70's you could buy a speaker like you have for the same price as a Dynaco A25 XL. The tweeters were usually piezo or CTS cones. The cost of components and construction were better than some brands, but far below others.

From the little I read as a result of this search, I determined they were mid priced speakers 20+ years ago. You could order one of the mail order speakers that pays shipping each way and compare them to what you have.

It's a unfair to call these "white van" speakers. If it's the same Audiosphere Research, they were a staple at Canadian Hi-Fi shops in the seventies, filling in the low-cost range for those who weren't buying JBL or the Brits. The marketing ploy was Big Cabinets. This was prior to Mirages, PSBs, etc. finally burying them with NRC designed product.

The audiospheres have an active circuit breaker in each of the two pods, one to protect the woofers and one to protect the mid's and highs. If you over drive them they shut down and need a O input to reset them, which only occurred on a couple of occasions when we where crazy enough to wire the speakers to produce a 2 ohm load in very large areas.
