Brain Evoked Response Auditory (BERA) is a hearing test for children aged one to three years. Meanwhile, for children of a younger age, an OtoAcoustic Emission (OAE) test may be performed. If the BERA test results are in excellent condition, it is possible to infer that the child’s hearing function is within normal ranges and that no additional medical treatment is required.

Background: Brainstem electric response audiometries (BERA) are in clinical use for a number of years. The aim of our study was to evaluate data regarding the long-term reliability of BERA-determined frequency specific thresholds in hearing disabled children.

The normal values in brainstem electric response audiometry (BERA) were studied. A description is given of the latencies and amplitudes of the normal response. The effects of (1) the intensity of the stimulus, (2) the stimulation rate, and (3) the use of a sedative were investigated. It seems that the transmission time P1-P5 is significantly longer (+/- 0.25 msec) in men than in women.

Brain stem evoked response audiometry (BERA) is a useful objective assessement of hearing. Major advantage of this procedure is its ability to test even infants in whom conventional audiometry may not be useful.

Three aspects of brainstem response audiometry were investigated in the present study. (1) The brainstem response threshold was compared with the pure-tone audiogram in 40 patients with conductive hearing loss. The brainstem response threshold has a one-to-one relationship with the mean of the pure-tone thresholds at 2 and 4 kHz.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK564321/
Auditory brainstem response (ABR), also known as brainstem auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEP), is an objective measurement of auditory pathway function from the auditory nerve to the mesencephalon. ABR tests synchronous neural function and can estimate hearing sensitivity thresholds in individuals who are unable to tolerate traditional behavioral audiometry.
