Open control panel, click "Hardware and Sound", click "Sound", click "recording" tab; then ( the part that fooled me ) right click in the middle of the window where the devices are and tick "show disconnected devices". This will bring up Stereo Mix for you to enable and Bioshock/Windows 8 sound problems gone. Thx, it worked for me

First off if you're using hdmi cable, I bet you're using nvidia hd audio and thats cool. But you'll also need to enable your onboard audio and install the drivers for it, which may be realtek hd audio. After installing that, you'll need to right click the sound icon> go to recording devices > right click show disabled > and enable stereo mix.
