Is there an inherent advantage to the BNC connector over RCA for digital audio? My current USB to SPDIF converter (Musical Fideliy V-Link) only has Toslink optical and RCA coaxial digital outputs, but I might be getting a new one soon (Audio GD Digital Interface) which will have a BNC output in additon to the 2 afforementioned outputs.

There are two advantages to BNC: (1) it has a characteristic impedance (50 or 75 ohms depending on use), and (2) is a locking (bayonet) connector. It should make no difference whether you go RCA or BNC, and you don't really need a 75 ohm cable either if you are only spanning a few feet.

(Good) BNC connectors are spot on 75ohm - they were designed to be so. From what I've read on this forum (see the Beekeepers sticky post), 75ohm is actually impossible with RCA phonos due to the physical size of the connector. Canare connectors get close to 75ohms though. HTH, Joel
