The body design of the CAD M179 microphone is extremely good compared to the other versions. The plugs and switches are made in a way to endure hard and rough usage. The packaging is another wonder with this product. It is done in an excellent manner that protects the microphone during the shipping of the product.

My main use for the M179s has been OH duties. They sound excellent, very large and punchy sound good for capturing the whole kit. They can be a bit harsh though. There is a upper midrange peak at about 3,4 to 5,2 khz, but nothing you can't EQ out. Maybe not ideal if you are using your OH mics to mainly capture cymbals.

The CAD M179 is a well built condenser mic with quality and options rarely, if ever, found for it's price range. I personally have never used it live, I bought it for in-studio work only, but I think with the proper caution necessary for using ANY condenser live you should not have any major issues. CAD M177 & M179 - soundonsound.com
https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/cad-m177-m179
The M177 and M179 require phantom power between 24V and 48V (although some CAD literature suggests they can accommodate 52V supplies as well), but with a whopping 8mA supply current! This is well over twice what most other condenser mics require. The Sennheiser MKH80 and AKG C414 require only 3mA and the Neumann U87 a mere 0.8mA, for example.
