My dealer has the Rotel 970 for approx $1000, Jolida tube cdp approx $1250, Rega (cant remember model) approx $1250 and the Cambridge 840c on sale for around $1500. I am usind a Mcintosh c220 as a pre and a Mcintosh MC352 for power.

I would be interested in a Naim CD5i and Cambridge Audio 840C comparison. My guess would be similar to that reported above - the 840C has better resolution and sounds smoother, while the Naim kicks it in terms of pace and toe tap-ability. I didn't compare Naim CD 5i and CA side by side. So I am a bit precousuos.

Sam Telig mentions it in his review of the Cambridge Audio DacMagic, but incorrectly states that the 840C shares Wolfson DACs with their DacMagic and 740C player. the 840C actually uses higher end Analog Devices DACs. Absolute Sound on the other hand is quite fond of the 840C, giving it rave reviews and a best buy nod.

Cambridge 840c burn in So, I got a new 840C a few weeks ago and I’m kind of surprised by how dramatically the sound has changed. When I was demoing it in the store it was a box fresh unit and very bright sounding, but compared to the other players I was comparing it to it had much better bass and general clarity.
