Cambridge Audio is to Arcam what Volkswagen is to Audi. My older Arcam alpha 8 integrated + 8p bi-amping combo belongs to a league well under the NAD 315bee. The NAD 315 offers more of everything. Arcam is 4x more expensive than NAD, and Cambridge Audio is 2x more expensive than NAD.

So far, it seems like the best contenders are the Marantz PM8005/8006, Cambridge CXA80 and the NAD C368. Anyone have any experience with any of these models?

The Cambridge is a bit warmer (although I would charecterize both lines as "warm"), but the ends of the audio spectrum is a bit rolled off with the Cambridge amps. The Cambridge is more relaxed and laid back, the NAD is more involving.

1,503 posts. 09-29-2011 4:49pm. Edit. Delete. I don't have gear as nice as yours but I had a NAD PP2 and I upgraded to a Cambridge Audio 640P phono preamplifier. I haven't looked back since making that change. I've read that the Jolida JD9 and the Vincent Audio PHO-8 are nice phono preamps for under $500.

Right now I'm testing the Cambridge Audio 551p phono stage my dealer lent me. It sounds great. I'm probably going to pick one up. However, I was wondering if the 651p, which is $100 more, is any better? Yes, I know one of the differences between the two phono stages is that the 651p does MC as well as MM.

Came here to say this. Go to audiogon. Get the Cambridge 550 unless you find a deal on the bad you can't pass up. I've owned them both. The Cambridge was slightly 'clearer'. I now own a $600 clear audio pre and it's not as different as you might think from the $100 used options.
