Alec, strictly speaking it is a step down transformer. The rest of the power supply is housed in the 640P, so its only a part of the PS. If you wanted to upgrade the PS, the only way to do it is to open the 640P and get busy with a soldering iron. Because it is a simple transformer, changing it will have no impact on the sound.
