I now have the 840A v2 after previously owning th pioneer a400 and rega brio 3. Both superb second hand buys which makes them superior in terms of value for money. I now only listen to CDs and I echo most of the comments in the above review of the sound quality of the 840. It is very good indeed.

The 840A is much beefier in its design, with the pre-amp and power amp having separate power supplies. And there's two heat sinks in the 840A. The 740A weighs in at about 10.5Kg (first picture), while the 840A weighs in at about 15kg (second picture). The 840A does inspire me with more confidence.
