Twice now, we've had the pleasure of reviewing Cambridge Audio's superb Azur 840C CD player. At £750, it offers superb value. Now we've got our hands on the 740C, which appears to match its ...

The D/A chips are the same Wolfson WMB8740 24-bit DACs used in Cambridge Audio's Azur 740C and 840C CD players. Two per channel operate in dual-differential mode for maximum noise reduction. You can run the DacMagic from its balanced XLR analog outputs into a balanced preamp and power amp for maximum noise cancellation.

Cambridge 740c -vs- Cambridge 840c, sonically? - Head-Fi

    https://www.head-fi.org/threads/cambridge-740c-vs-cambridge-840c-sonically.257070/
The WM8740 in the 740C is a strong DAC chip indeed, it's been used in a lot of CDPs (not just CA but Arcam and many other brands), but that doesn't necessarily mean it's inferior to the AD1955 in the 840C - it's all in the implementation. Personally I wouldn't buy either CDP if I was theoretically in a situation where I'd be looking to buy.

The stereotypical audiophile prefers a rounder, warmer, sweeter, more seductive sound. So if you are from this camp, you can stop reading. Just kidding. But do be warned that the 740C may not be your cup of tea. I had a classmate who swore and insisted that his JVC boombox (complete with Hyperbass) sounded better via batteries, than the AC cord.

Cambridge Azur 851A integrated amplifier | …

    https://www.stereophile.com/content/cambridge-azur-851a-integrated-amplifier
Cambridge Audio's Azur 851A might just be that type of integrated amp. On their website, Cambridge Audio describes the Azur 851A ($1900) as their "Flagship Integrated Class XD Amplifier," and that it provides "120 watts per channel of Class XD amplification" from "an acoustically damped full metal chassis." Class XD is Cambridge's "proprietary ...
