Cambridge Audio 540a hum on low and high | diyAudio
https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/cambridge-audio-540a-hum-on-low-and-high.330777/
I noticed the other day that my Cambridge Audio 540a has a 50Hz hum at low volumes and at high volumes, but in the middle the hum fades to inaudible (around 10 oclock on the volume control). The hum is there with and without inputs (input leads even disconnected). The sounds varies a little depending on which input is selected, but not much.

A potential difference between these two grounds can cause unwanted noise voltage in the circuit paths. Currents flow through these multiple paths and develop voltages which can cause damage, noise or 50Hz/60Hz hum/buzz. This can be eliminated in one of two ways: Remove one of the ground paths to convert the system to a single point ground. Isolate one of the ground paths …

This hum is fairly low but still can be heard from the listening position ( 10 ft from loudspeakers) only between songs. When a song begins the low level hum can no longer be heard. The resolution of the system is not negatively affected at all when in play mode. The hum does not increase when the gain of the linestage is increased.

The Cambridge Audio Duo phono preamp comes in an attractive package despite its budget price and branded label. Its amplifier is essentially distortion-free and performance is mainly limited by power supply hum/mains leakage using MM input. MC incurs a penalty of 20 dB so you may hear some hiss there that would not with MM.

Debugging problems with your audio setup can often be maddening. Some of the common problems that audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts run into are in the form of buzzing or hum. The buzzing often emanates from one of two places: 1) from the speaker or 2) directly from an audio component. When the buzz is coming out of the speaker, it’s often …
Annoying hum from Azur 640c - ecoustics.com

The first one I bought started to hum after a few days. The replacement I obtained today is doing it right from the start. There is no mains hum over the speakers, and the sound quality is really good (Mission Cyrus One amp and Monitor Audio Silver 5i speakers). But (and its a big but) every break in the music is filled with a noticeable 50 Hz hum.
Mains hum - Wikipedia
