Play 24bit ALAC audio on iPhone / iPad - Apple Community
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5527408
Yes, this is confirmed. iTunes will play back 32/192. Yes confirmed once again. I would recommend checking the sampling rate of your ALACs. If they are 2448, they will sync. If they are higher, iTunes will tell you that it can't. You can playback 24/192 from your "iDevice", but only with the camera connection kit, and a DAC that supports USB in.
Play 24bit ALAC audio on iPhone / iPad - Apple Community

it's great that iPhone 6 & iPad Air2 will play 24 bit 48 kHz files. You really don't need anything above 48kHz, anyway, as that ends up giving you 24kHz per channel and humans won't hear a whole lot past 16-18kHz and little, if anything, past 20kHz. The rest is a waste, as most reproductive mechanisms (speakers, amps) won't reproduce much higher than 24kHz audio.

You can record pristine 192 khz / 24 bit multichannel audio without having to carry around an heavy computer and with the ease of use typical of the iPad. You can use n-Track on the iPad to record tracks on the field, then either mix and quickly email them directly from the device or later export the recorded tracks (as uncompressed .wav files) to a computer to edit, mix and master …

The former supports audio at 24-bit/48kHz, but uses compression and has a maximum data rate of 576kbps. The latter supports up to 32-bit/96kHz over Bluetooth but only with a data rate of 990kbps. Both of these are lower than the data rate of CD (1411kbps) which isn’t technically hi …

Got the Onkyo HF working and loaded first 24/96 PCM in iPad. Two follow up questions: The app can actually play the files, which means it's using the ipad built in DAC, which I know little about except that it can't be that great.

In this scenario, you will have two separate devices daisy chained between the iPad and AVR. Also, the maximum resolution supported by the DragonFly Red is 24-bit/96kHz, as opposed to the 24-bit/192kHz you can get when streaming Amazon Music HD via HEOS.

To play music, I subscribe to Amazon Music HD and I have the option to play through an Amazon Fire TV stick 4k or through the Denon Heos app. I like the interface of the app of the Amazon Fire TV but it only plays max 16-bit (so disappointing that they have the service but their own devices can't maximize it).
16-Bit vs. 24-Bit vs. 32-Bit Audio
https://www.makeuseof.com/16-bit-vs-24-bit-audio/
To be honest, not really. The only real benefit of 32-bit audio is the added headroom when it comes to editing. While you get less distortion with 32-bit audio, you have enough headroom with 24-bit audio with room to spare. The differences between bit depths are inaudible and not really worth the hype.

Categorically not true. iTunes can store and play ALAC & WAV files just fine - upto 24bit/192khz. The xACT application will convert any other 24bit source files to ALAC (including FLAC and WAV). The primary issue many don't realise is how Mac's are configured to play anything other than the standard 44.1khz/16bit output.
