If you are using them as surround you can use either (the RC80i or RC85i). If you have a subwoofer I would just use the RC80i, they are also more "invisible" in a ceiling installation and lighter. If you don't have a subwoofer then I would go with the RC85i, they cover the full ranfge whereas the RC80i don't quite do it. Welcome!

The bad news: Most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers appear to be designed to go into a space that's no more than 16" on center, and that does have a "back wall". Some Polks do either support or even include a "performance enclosure" which implies it's a good idea. If I were you, I'd probably look at building boxes out of MDF or something similar.
