Monitoring from the external amp since the 70D doesn't have an audio out jack, the amp is fine. To make things wierder, the camera shows both channels on the on-screen meter just fine. So audio from mics to amp is fine, and audio coming into the camera up to the meters "looks" fine, but the final file that is saved....audio is screwed.

First thing to note is that the 70d audio input is stereo; two independent channels are recorded. Seems to have at least 50dB channel separation...probably somewhat more. Second, the inputs are leveled by an AGC (automatic gain control} system that appears to apply the same gain to both channels, based on the greatest input levels.

There is not a port on the EOS 70D that allows headphones to be connected for monitoring audio. However, the camera does have an HDMI port, which carries an audio signal. You can send the HDMI signal to an external monitor that does allow you to connect headphones and monitor the audio. This didn't answer your question or issue?
