The Cary 805 was originally designed for the use of 805 tube which could give you nearly 50 watts of undistrored power. When 211 (805B) & 845 (805C) were employed it can only produce approximately 30 watts of undistroed power under the measure of an osciliscope.

The Cary 805AE was in a different room, so not strictly comparable. But the dynamics were something else - VERY impressive. The tone was typical Cary 805 - a touch on the bright side, magical top end, and very sweet. I am not sure how the 805C compares to the 805AE, but I think it would be a good match.

With its ornate knobs and gold-on-black finish, the beautifully crafted Cary Audio Design 805 looks like a '30s period piece. An amazingly powerful single-ended triode amplifier that has driven my Wilson Watt/Puppies for the last 16 years. This amp is 20 years old. Cosmetically they are in very good condition.

324 posts. 11-26-2002 6:09am. Edit. Delete. The 805 series has been in production for a number of years. While there are some internal changes in the 805C over the 805B, the biggest difference is the output tube. The B uses a 211 and the C a 845. They both use the same input and driver tubes.
