I am reviewing the VDA-2, not the VDA-1. I am putting my review here, as Audio Review has chosen not to create a new listing for the VDA-2 product from CI Audio. These two DACs are quite different however. First the upshot: This is an incredibly good DAC. Secondly, the customer support offered by Channel Islands Audio is second to none.

The VDA-1 sounds more natural without the 518 in the chain. The 518 has the option of either emphasis or deemphasis. With deemphsis, the sound is muffled. With emphasis on, the human voice becomes very very real. However, everything else becomes thin and cibilant.

It offers 24/192 conversion through its coaxial input and 24/96 through the optical input. It also has two RCA outputs. One standard and one 180 degree phase output. These outputs are switchable from the front panel.
