This is on a Dell Studio 1737 laptop which was bought in January 2009. The problem started occurring a couple of months ago.

All the sounds are choppy including music, video, even windows sounds. Is this a problem with Vista or the drivers? or is it the hardware? I have the latest drivers(2008.03.27). The sound card is ' SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio '. I have vista with SP1 and I use SRS Audio Sandbox to enchance the sound quality.

With IO-APIC enabled the sound was choppy, if disabled everything works. And if it was enabled the number of the used cores doesn't matter. Even with a highend Core i-7 (Sandy Bridge, 4 cores, 8 threads) i had interruptions in the sound. For audio to work flawlessly, disable the IO-APIC, set the cores to 1. With XP-Guests this counts:
