Variable RF power mod for Cobra 142 GTL. I've assembled the "swing kits" with a pot for power level before for the cobra 29's but I want to put one on my 142 for AM. Not SSB. The radio has some sort of swing kit in it but I don't know where to look on the board to find it.

Locate and unsolder the 11.1125 mhz crystal and replace it with a 11.3258 mhz crystal. Install 2 SPST switches on the back side of the radio.

Yes, if you DI at C119, you have to use a small audio amp to have enough drive to fully modulate. (10-15 watts) The reason is because the modulator circuit on a 2000/148/142 has a 2 transistor Darlington array (less gain). The Galaxy type radios have a triple Darlington array which has enough gain that standard line level is enough drive.
