"Taking a nice radio like a Cobra 2000 and doing a swing mod to it is butchering to me." OK. because of the radio in particular, agreed. go look for a used cobra 148 or grant xl & experiment with that. put your mods on switches whenever possible. & WHEN you find a mod you like, you may feel it is acceptable to be placed in the 2000, on a switch.
