I have ruled that out. I am an 88 years old long time Comcast customer and am having annoying audio drop outs on my TV ( both live and recorded programs). An Since I have a new Samsung smart tv with no history of audio issues an Xfinity employee feels it is the leased cable box at fault which is an older version (Pace PX013ANC).

Comcast engineer on the X1 team here. Sounds like you're facing an issue with the HDCP handshake between your box and your TV. It's most likely an issue that will be fixed in a future software release. But for now, your best bet is to not use HDMI to deliver audio. You can use the optical cable or a composite cable instead.

The sound through my Comcast cable cuts out sporadically missing a word here or there. Some channels being worse than others and some times of the day being worse than others. It's a similar sound to a CD skipping on a scratch. At it's worst it skips every 10-15 seconds. I don't see much of a resolution in that thread however.

My technical guess is that the cable network do allot of switching of data and maybe there is a mill second delay in the audio channel that causes the receiver to rescan for the correct codex, the cure is to slow down this response time, so it makes the acquisition time slower, at least you can avoid the audio drop outs.
