"Good" CD players last a LONG time. 7 years to 15 years would be the norm in my guess. From my experience, stock Philips players don't last as long as many other brands. I really do not have a concrete answer here. But I have commercial CD's over 20 years old that still sound and function fine. Now it is possible that the sound has deteriorated. But with out a new CD to make an A/B comparison. I really could not say. I remember when CD's were first released they were touting a 50 year life span.
