Conexant SmartAudio HD Microphone not working in Windows 10. My internal microphone does not work on my ASUS laptop (model X456UB), and when used, only creates a buzzing noise. 1. go to control panel. 2. click hardware and sound then go to sound. 3. go to recording tab. 4. right click microphone and go to properties. 5. go to advanced tab then if you see a section thats called "signal enhancements" then if you see an option "Enable audio enhancements" checked then uncheck it then apply/ok.

When I insert the combined audio jack into the laptop, both the playback and recording devices are recognised as being 'Conexant SmartAudio HD'. There is no trouble with the headphones, but the external microphone shows no reading of picking up my voice.
