To fix your problem go to: HDD > users > home folder > library > Application Support > Garageband > Working Copies. Inside this folder you'll find the offending corrupted files. You can delete them all and close the folder. Open Garageband and the "Learn to play" lessons will work just like the first day you got them.

"Core Audio is Not Available" I've been recording tracks on my 2009 Macbook Pro since I got it, but with this most recent update, all the sudden I am not able to hear or play anything on Garageband. Re: Garageband audio /core audio not working? This is a known issue with Garageband and Apple is working on a fix. In the meantime, you can regain correct playback by going to the Preferences in Garageband and toggling the 'Optimize for' radio button between 'larger buffer size' and 'smaller buffer size'.
