But, the Creek is so musical sounding, almost emotional, that the Triangle's sing very well in this room. I would recommend this integrated amp to anyone with very expressive speakers. There is dynamic impact with clarity, without a hint a shrillness. Also, since the Titus' are a 4ohm load, the Creek puts out 120watts a side. And it sounds like it.

The remote control is large, but light as a feather compared with the bulky aluminum remote from my Audio Refinement Complete integrated. The Creek remote looks simple enough; however, it covers an entire suite of Creek products that I do not have. I found it distracting considering that I only used the Up and Down buttons to scan through stations.

Creek's website describes the Evolution 100A (base price $2195) as "the most sophisticated and reasonably priced amplifier Creek has ever made." I suspect a big part of this sophistication and reasonable price may be the result of Creek's version of a class-G output stage, designed by senior engineer David Gamble.

The one thing I've liked about designer Mike Creek of Creek Audio as much as his design talent is his predictability. I've been following his integrated-amplifier designs for nearly 20 years now, having reviewed, in sequence, the CAS4140s2 (for another magazine), the 4240SE (Stereophile, December 1995, Vol.18 No.12), and the 5350SE (March 2001, Vol.24 No.3).

However, to increase the power output without expanding the chassis’ waistline, Creek Audio engineers developed a Class G circuit—a dual-rail design that mostly runs at a lower voltage for power levels up to 25 watts, but that, upon demand, can automatically swing to a higher secondary voltage to increase the output power capability to over ...
