I found a cheap DDM4000 on cl with the intentions of doing this mod. I was wondering what is actually happening in this mod? Im guessing that the midi from the up fader is being routed to the crossfader to do both midi/audio at the same time. My question to anyone that can answer is does it have to come from the up fader.

The crossfader cannot be used for audio and MIDI at the same time, so you will end up have to bodge a workaround. If you don't use the crossfader for audio at all, then it will work fine. Far better to buy a mixer that has actually been thought about - I'm going to upset the DDM4000 fanboys here, but I would say avoid this mixer personally.
