The following is a record of a problem we had here with a debian Etch Security Update that we performed on 26 Aug. 2008. It has now been resolved. The culprit seems to have been the linux-image-2.6.18-5-686_2.6.18.dfsg.1-13etch6_i386.deb kernel package. However, there seems to be no maintainer for this or related packages.
