linux - No sound on fresh install of Debian - Unix & Linux ...
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/290718/no-sound-on-fresh-install-of-debian
One place to start is to use pavucontrol (install it if you don't have it) to check to what output your sound is sent. Under "Output Devices", the text next to the icon of a sound card should be something familiar (for me it is "Built-in Audio Analog Surround 4.0". There might be options to change ports, if you have multiple speaker configurations.
Debian 10 sound not working - LinuxQuestions.org

I installed from the debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso. I am getting sound through the headphone jack, but nothing through the speakers. 1 sink (s) available. I can play music via juk and run the pacmd command then the output shows as active, but still no sound. I am no expert on the sound, especially with pulse audio.

the catch: when there is no audio jack inserted -> it will register as “audio output device” (usb-soundcard) by GNU Linux Debian X-D. making file access impossible. solution: attach a audio-jack cable: then it will show up and mount like a usb-stick. another downturn of that (otherwise nice) product:

Both are ATAPI devices, so I have compiled the kernel, 2.4.18, with the following options: a) scsi generic support enabled b) scsi cdrom support enabled c) ATAPI cdrom support disabled At boot time, the scsi support is started as we can see from the dmesg output: hda: ST320413A, ATA DISK drive hdc: CREATIVE CD5233E, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdd ...

Debian GNU/Linux will find your CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD drives without the need for you to do anything. For older versions of Debian GNU/Linux see Section 13.1. The simplest way to burn a CD is with the Naultilus CD Creator described in Section 57.3. It is a basic burner to just do the job without any fuss.
Cdrecord and Mkisofs - Debian User Forums

The first step in using cdrecord, is to find the address of your CDR-RW device. Enter the following command: $ cdrecord -scanbus(not needed with kernel 2.6) On my computer, I got this output: bob@Naylux:~$ cdrecord -scanbus. Cdrecord 2.01a07 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2003 J rg Schilling.

I believe it's the 2.6 kernel that supports the non-ide-scsi cdrw burning. So when it removed the 'sg' from /etc/modules and remove the hdc and hdd options from the GRUB boot menu. Here's the output:
