I've gone through all of this on FC1 & FC2 in modules.conf & modprobe.conf, but Debian being a bit different using /etc/modutils has presented a few problems. I put snd-usb-audio in /etc/modules but on re-booting it set the usb midi keyboard as card 0 , seeing it as a possible sound card.
