HDMI Audio doesn't work - Debian Squeeze (Intel HDMI) Hi, I'm trying to plug my computer to the TV through the HDMI output but there's no audio coming from it. The image is ok. Reading some other posts here, I've tried to create the file "asound.conf" in /etc with the following information (two attempts):
Debian - no sound with HDMI cable - LinuxQuestions.org

I've installed a dual boot : windows and debian on a new multimedia pc. On Windows, I can get the sound from the tv passed by the HDMI cable. Windows works fine as usual. However, I connected my laptop up (running squeeze) to my Samsung TV and though the picture comes up fine the sound only plays via the laptop. My cat /proc/asound/cards tells us:

On mine (same motherboard, Debian Squeeze) I only get 2 channel PCM Digital Stereo. I suspect this is the HW limit. I have found following in the kernel sources { .id = 0x10de8001, .name = "MCP73 HDMI", .patch = patch_nvhdmi_2ch } which seems to indicate that only 2 ch stereo is supported. I'd like the confirnmation though.
Asus AT5IonT-I, MythTV, HDMI, Debian squeeze = no sound
https://blog.lostentry.org/2011/12/asus-at5iont-i-mythtv-hdmi-debian.html
Debian Squeeze comes with alsa 1.0.23, and a NVidia 195.x driver for kernel 2.6.34. Combine this with the setup of the AT5IonT-I which has both an Intel HDA sound, and NVidia HDA HDMI sound built-in, and I could not get HDMI sound working, no matter what probe settings I chose, manually loading kernel modules, etc.
