Okay, I looked at your screenshot of the Device Manager. It appears that the only audio device installed on your computer is the HDMI audio. HDMI audio is part of the graphics card -- it is the digital audio that gets sent to a tv when connected with an HDMI cable.

I have a Dell Studio 1537 laptop special edition and have had multiple problems with it. I have always had a warranty on it and still do. I have had to get a new ACadapter, battery, keyboard and CD/DVD player.
