The best way to test to see if a problem like yours is caused by hardware failure or software (drivers, OS) is to run a version of Linux on the PC and test to see if you get sound there. While most of them have had no issues, three of the PCs are not identifying the onboard Realtek Audio Device. The only device that shows up under Device Manager>Sound is an AMD HD Audio device. Each of the PCs in question has a small set of desktop speakers that are connected to the motherboard audio port (thus the need for the Realtek drivers).
