Try again installing the Dell System Software Utility, reboot, then Intel Chipset driver, reboot, then again the Sigmatel driver 6.10.0.5866. If you get the same error message, try the previous version Sigmatel 6.10.0.5614. I keep reading about UAA and the Microsoft Hotfix, but that seems to be only for XP.

Several times I have formatted my C drive to intall fresh OS and have used the sigmatel driver and everything had worked fine. One day when I was trying to install the driver there came a message 'Device object not present'. and audio driver installation failed. Please tell me is this a hardware issue, or there is some problem in the OS itself.

It could be a hardware issue rather than software or Windows itself. I would recommend test wiht other Sound Card installed. Also, it is a build in card, try to disable it from BIOS, run Windows and install software, then go back to BIOS and enable Sound card and run Windows again.
