Dimmers causing buzz in audio - Sweetwater
https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/dimmers-causing-buzz-audio/
L ighting dimmers that use big, inductive coils can cause hum to be induced in audio equipment just by being in close proximity. Dimmers that use potentiometers or solid-state circuits (as many inexpensive home dimmers do) will cause hash noise and other garbage to be induced. In both cases the induction often occurs through the electrical wiring.
Can I run audio signals through a dimmer switch to control ...

Dimmer switches work using a triac to control the mains voltage. The turn-on point in the mains half-cycle is varied to reduce the effective voltage. The dimmer works with mains voltages. Your audio will only be around 10 V or so. The dimmer works with constant mains frequency and amplitude. Audio signals vary in both frequency and amplitude.

Similarly, solid-state light dimmers can create havoc with audio gear. These devices work by changing the amount of time the full power line voltage is applied to the light being controlled, as opposed to actually raising and lowering the voltage. Although AC power is supplied by the power company as a pure sine wave (having no harmonics), the ...

Another suggestions would be to use a different line to supply the audio system (or dimmer). Best would be a seperate dedicated audio line. Use a very low wattage bulb with no dimmer. Or if you want the ultimate no noise dimmer, replace the dimmer with a variac (variable autotransformer).

Theatrical dimmers remove the spikes by running the output through large, expensive inductors or L-C networks, which add bulk and cost. A solid state dimmer does NOT reduce the peak-to-peak amplitude of the waveform, it only reduces the AVERAGE POWER in the waveform. A solid state dimmer generates the most noise when the power output is around 30%.
