This is a widespread problem and there are several other posts in this regard. I added my issues to the post of November 10, 2017 (Random sound dropouts) and another recent post on October 18, 2017 (Audio Dropouts). According to a poster in the October 18 thread, this is a DirecTV issue.

OK, I am in DFW, receive the same local channels that you do (1953), and have an HR24-500. My audio runs via an optical audio cable to a Sony A/V receiver, and I don't see any of these problems. Audio from NBC and ABC is a mixture of DD5.1, DD2.0 and PCM. Different programs will have different audio, and the same with commercials.

When the TV is getting the HDMI input from the HR24-500 and the audio signal is Dolby Digital out from the optical out of the TV into the sound bar, I am getting the annoying millisecond dropouts every 20-40 seconds. When I switch the video to component out and opt. audio or coax digital out, the audio is out of sync with the video.

The only problem I've seen with the Pioneer AVR's is some total loss of audio at times during trick play of DVR. Power cycling the AVR seems to resolve the issue.
