When the sound cuts out its the source audio that disappears, which points again to either the DirecTV receiver or the cable (the cable is brand new, but doesn't mean it's not faulty). I may call DirecTV (but of course I just cancelled my equipment coverage). I may also give coaxial digial audio a shot to see if that fixes it.
