A kit would be handy as my expertise on DAC architecture is limited. So far Audio Note and Lampizator have caught my eye. I have thus far relied on a Marantz CD52se but time to step up and get my digital set up on a parallel to my vinyl.

DAC audio output was 10dB lower and distortion went up x10. Test points TP9 and TP10 measure 17.4V instead of 10V. All other T.P. DC voltages are OK. It is only when I touch with the probe resistors R19 and R45 that everything returns to normal (and stays normal). The scenario repeats after power cycling, no matter if the DAC is warm or cold.

2019-08-31 2:44 pm. #2. Best is chip is probably AK4499. However, there are no commercial dac products using that part yet, and evaluation boards are in short supply (and not cheap at $600). If you can hit numbers like that and want to build a 4-channel dac from an eval board then it is quite doable.

Finally completed the dac. There was a long delay due to the taobao seller sending me wrong parts of the chassis i ordered. Interesting finding when i changed to Bourn inductors from the default one in the package. The inductors that came in the kit sounded more 'airy', the string notes has a 'hanging in the air' effect.
