The no sound with Doom 3 issue can be resolved by changing the default bit rate in your Midi Setup from 2ch - 24bit to 2ch -16Bit. To do this, open the Audio Midi Setup control panel in the Applications/Utilities folder. Change "Properties For": to "Built - in Output" instead of "Built-in Mic". This will show you the Output options.

No, you do not need a new card. The problem is in ALSA. DOOM3 outputs sound with a rate of 44100Hz, while ALSA usually uses 48000Hz internally.

All except for the sound in Doom 3. The other 2 included Doom games are fine. They have sound, play and don't crash or anything. Neither does Doom 3, it just doesn't have any sound whatsoever. Running latest stable wine version. Not sure if it's a driver or something? That I can think of all the codecs and whatnot are there, so I've got no idea.

Its starting to sound more like a game-specific bug with the n-force and doom3 Try reinstalling DX9c (its out on M$ website), try turning the quality down to lowest settings in doom3 and see if that helps I've had sound screw up sometimes when the CPU is under heavy load, especially if its a onboard ... i'll think of some other stuff EDIT

I love playing Doom 3 in VR but I can't believe ID never bothered to improve the terribly wimpy weapon sounds ... especially the pistol, which sounds like an under-powered BB gun. I've been trying to get Trent Reznor's sound mod working with the VR mod, but no matter where I put it, it doesn't seem to load correctly.

If I uncheck this box I no longer have this problem in doom 3. I have a 4.1 speaker system. This is the system that I have selected in "creative speaker settings". In my Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices> Speaker Settings >Advanced, I have "5.1 surround sound speakers" selected. This is the only way I could get surround sound in Doom 3.
