Just to clarify, the Droid X does not output audio via USB. Setting the Droid X to use USB mass storage mode allows your car's audio system to read the music files stored on the micro SD card and play them, just as if you plugged in a USB thumb drive containing music.

My other options are connecting the Droid directly to the head unit via USB and mounting it as a mass storage device, but I prefer the way the Droid handles music better than the head unit, and mounting the USB is an extra step I'd probably get too lazy for.

Change USB configuration back to Audio Source Unplug host cable and plug it in again. Then it works. But that seems to be the only sequence that does it. I really hope they streamline this process. There is a lot of audio power in these phones when you can get USB audio out of them. It seems to be sounding great!

EDIT: I suspect it might not be possible using the included adapter because the Z2F's DAC is onboard, which means it might output analog audio only from the USB Type-C port, as opposed to a bitstream.
