HDMI 1.3 is required, but only if you want to pass the raw 'DTS-HD Master Audio' bitstream to the receiver. That is incase your receiver has a 'DTS-HD Master Audio' decoder and you wish to use that to decode the raw bitstream, rather than the, presumably inferior, decoder built into the player.
