You should service the 1218. Clean out the old grease and regress. The motor needs to be taken apart, cleaned, and oiled. There are posts on how to service Duals. Fixed up several 1218s this last year. If ANY levers are not moving Don’t force them. Once serviced, Duals will run a long time. I rate the 1218 3rd from the top on the 1200 series.

I would recommend purchasing a serviced Dual 1229. You can find a few compaines that offer them. With regard to the 1218, I would stay away from it. The platter is on the light side and the motor isn't the same powerful massive smooth beast found in the 1229/1219 tables. Norman
