Decent DVD rom as audiophile CD transport? | Headphone ...
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/decent-dvd-rom-as-audiophile-cd-transport.72513/
Thx for the reply! I think I havent wrote it right, I meant that I need a DVD rom that has good SQ as a transport, that's all. I forgot that the NEC's I've mentioned have DAC's built-in, the DVD I wan't doesnt need one, just as long as it feeds low jitter digital signal to the E-MU 1212 m's DAC's, i.e. being a "good transport".

Depends on what you mean by "Audiophile" and what you are willing to pay for it. Naim makes a piece called an nServe which is a high end ripper and 1TB hard drive in a slick case made specifically for ripping and storing music.

I've been through all formats over the last 50 years, eventually ending up with PC CD/DVD ROM in a computer. The list is long, vinyl on a Thorens/SME arm, to Micromega Classic DATA transport, with a lot of tasty items over the years. Including 300B valve monoblocks, Monarchy Audio tube DAC, Spendor, IMF, Tannoy, BBC Monitors, etc, etc.

The DVD boxes lack the artwork of the CD versions, but the art is available as graphic files on the DVD. The Goldberg Variations disc is divided into Parts A & B, corresponding to Sides A & B on a simultaneous vinyl release.
Is there such a thing as an audiophile CD-ROM? | Headphone ...

Yes, there is such a thing as an audiophile drive -- but not in THAT sense. The transport doesn't change the sound as much as a DAC change does. Because of this, using a CD-ROM is a cheap way to get good digital transfer. Because the DAC is a vast majority of the sound quality, CD-ROM's are skimped.

I did all my rips on an LG GE24NU external CD/DVD drive that I bought at Best Buy for $35 a few years back using dBpoweramp Reference. I think this drive costs about $60-70 now because it is no longer made. The old Plextor CD-ROM drives were generally considered the best.
