Yes you would certainly get the sound from that DVI/RGB audio input by using a vga into the TV. The DVI/HDMI lead will cut the sound when its plugged in because its turning off the other audio circuits. It's not a fault with the TV at all, at least I do not think so . I don't think DVI carries audio. The HDMI just feeds the video to the DVI via the adapter and drops the audio. So you won't be able to use the HDMI audio device. Connect a minijack cable from the sound card or mobo audio out to your TV (assuming it has a minijack audio input) and use the normal PC sound device for the audio.
