Today I plugged in the Philips DVP5982/37 DVD Player to my television via HDMI and then to the same receiver with a digital coax cable. I then went into the receiver and changed the DVD sound input from optical to the digital coax connector. I then went into the DVD menu and turned off HDMI for sound per Philips's website. Results: 1.

OK so here's the problem: I have a Samsung LNA330 32" LCD TV hooked up to a Philips DVD player, DVP5982. Both are brand new (3 weeks old). I have the player hooked up to my TV using an HDMI cable. I played a DVD yesterday and all of a sudden there was picture but no sound. My TV has 2 HDMI ports and I tried both ports. Again, picture but no sound.

I want a Philips DVP5982. I have the DVP5960 and love it. For those of you who don't know, the problems out of the box with the 5960 are: You can't ust the digital audio coaxil output while using HDMI (in a nutshell, if you want to use HDMI to get the upscaling, you can't get digital audio on an external amplifier.
