By the way, the DX-40 is specified in the Heathkit manual as requiring 175 watts at 117 volts. That's just under 1.5 amps. To allow for in-rush current, a 2 amp slo-blo fuse should do the job. If you want to use the Ranger trick, you could try a 3 or 4 amp fast fuse in one side with the 2 amp slo-blo in the other.
