I am currently using an ECHO Audiofire 8 with ffado in Dream Studio linux. The system has been fully updated to the very latest software components per the update manager. I am working on a Dell E6400 laptop with the mini firewire connector on the side of the laptop.

FFADO doesn't yet fully support the Linux kernel's new FireWire implementation properly (the info on their website regarding this is rather ambiguous but the short answer is that it just doesn't work) so I built a custom kernel with the old FireWire implementation.
