I have an audiofire 12 and also a 12ay7. I really like the echo converters, and have been using their products for years, from a Mia to a Layla 24, to an Indigo I/O and now the Audiofire. I can't give an opinion on the Duet, because I've never used one, but I have heard lots of happy Echo users, fwiw.
