The pot comes in linear taper and audio taper with linear traditionally being used for tone controls and audio taper for volume controls.

You're supposed to use audio taper for volume and linear taper for tone. That is where A500K/B500K come in. I looked at my EMG pots and even though they come labeled with V/T they are all A25k ohm pots. BTW. Ask the guy in the repair/setup dept. of your local music store if he has any EMG 25k pots left over from installs.

If you have a guitar with two pickups and two volume pots, you can use the provided 25K pots for the EMG, and a 250K/500K pot for the passive pickup. This will allow you to use either pickup. However, in the middle position the passive pickup will have reduced gain and response; and the passive pickup by itself will have far less output than the active one.

Audio or linear taper pots? What’s the difference ...
https://www.hoaglandcustom.com/2017/05/15/hello-world/
When you dial up a linear pot, the signal increases in a very predictable, linear way… At “1”, it gives you 10% of the available signal. At “4”, it gives you 40% of the available signal and at “9”, it gives you 90% of the available signal. An audio taper pot increases the signal logarithmic manner.

When I replaced the stock 300k linear volume pots on my Les Paul with 500k audio taper pots I loved the tone improvement but hated the taper. The linear taper was better to my ears. I've since put RS Guitarworks 500k Superpots in the guitar and couldn't be happier.
