I'm experiencing a similar problem on a 15" 2011 MacBook Pro. Sound stops being transmitted while in a conversation without an apparent reason. Like the microphone goes to sleep or something. I then have to restart FaceTime to get the sound to work agian. If I just hang up and call back it will not be fixed.
