The controller's value is tied to the pedal position regardless of which direction you are going. The parameter values for toe down and heel down are determined by the setting in the modifier. For a correctly wired expression pedal, minimum value for the pedal is at heel down and maximum value is at toe down.

mr_fender. A linear damping option has been on the wish list for a while. You can compensate some by tweaking the shape of the modifier curve assuming you're using the full range of the curve. Adjusting the slope will effectively speed up or slow down the outer ends of the curve transition.
