AC'97 is the predecessor to HD Audio and is a standard for case connectors it is not USB or anything similar. Some cases have both connectors some just have one. If you only have HD Audio and the MB only AC'97 you can get an adaptor if you need to use the front panel audio connectors. If not don't bother hooking it up.
